Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I ship my letter and/or package through you via UPS or FedEx? MailingEdge does offer shipping services through DHL but only if your package is already packaged. 2) Can you save my company money? The response is "yes" more times than not. By virtue of postal savings alone, bulk mail is a cost savings alternative mailing solution. Since client projects can vary greatly, we would encourage you to talk with us about your specific needs. 3) Is there a minimum number of pieces that I would need to mail to qualify for "presorted" (bulk) rates? Yes, the USPS requires a minimum of 200 pieces for bulk mail & 500 for presorted 1st class. 4) Do I need a permit? Our customers are welcome to use our permit at no additional charge when we perform mailing services for them. The permit needs to be obtained from our staff and printed on the mail piece at the time of commercial printing. We must always see a proof of your mailing panel PRIOR to print. 5) Do you do printing and/or graphic design at your location? No, but we are affiliated with many local printers and can assist you in locating one that meets your needs. We can also take your "ideas" to the completed product by designing a mail piece that is cost effective, USPS automation compatible and appealing to the recipient. 6) My project is late. How long before you can get it to the post office? Each job carries with it specific needs. Your needs are important to us and we shall strive to budget our working time between a two to four day window; however the more complex the job, the more time may be needed to accomplish the task. Our goal is to ensure that your job has been processed to perfection prior to shipment to the post office. 7) What color background is the best for inserting a barcode on my mail piece? The ideal colors for an automation mail piece are: Black print on a bright white background. 8) How much space do you need for addressing? We prefer an addressing area of 2" tall by 4" wide. However, minimum area is 1 ½" tall by 4" wide. 9) What is direct impression addressing? Our forte! Addresses are directly applied to the mail piece by inkjet or laser. Labels are applied at a minimum. Direct impression addressing allows for messages, customer codes and other unique components of an address record to be applied at the time of addressing. 10) Why should I take my 10-page 8 ½ x 11 newsletter and fold it to 8 ½ x 5 ½ ? Standard mail is classified as either as a letter sized piece or a flat. Letter rate postage is lower because the Postal service can process this type more efficiently. Also, letter size pieces usually lend themselves to automation compatibility more so than non-letter size pieces. By switching your mail piece from a non-letter to a letter, your mailing can save from $0.015 - $0.05 per piece dependent on the piece and rate qualification. In other words, reducing your dimensions will lower your postage costs!

For 1st Class Mail, it is a 4 ¼" x 6"; for Presorted Standard it is 6 1/8" x 11 ½ " 13) Should I produce labels and give them to Mailingedge to affix? We usually request that your database be in Excel, Text Delimited or a Comma Delimited format.
